Thomas Hitchcock, Jr. and William C. Whitney buy 8000 acres for hunting preserve

Hitchcocks start Aiken Hunt

Aiken Hunt registered with the newly-formed, national Master of Foxhounds Association

1916

W. C. Whitney sells his land to Francis Hitchcock, Tommy’s brother, for Lulie Hitchcock

Aiken Axe Club formed to build hunt jumps in the Woods

Lulie Hitchcock hosts first Aiken Horse Show in the Woods

1920

Lulie Hitchcock converts the Aiken Hunt from a live hunt to a drag hunt

1926

Memorial Gate dedicated to Francis R. Hitchcock

1939

Hitchcock family establishes Hitchcock Foundation and donates original 1191 acres to the Foundation

1985

Foundation purchases additional 230 acres from six Hitchcock heirs

1998

Management Plan for protection and preservation of the Hitchcock Woods forest developed by the Foundation

Conservation easement donated to SC Department of Natural Resources
